There is a theory called "The Peter Theory" which claims that, since the apostle wounded the guard in Gethsemane, every man named Peter is cursed with a physical impairment. Typically, it is the result of an injury incurred later in life, or is congenital and progressive. Fun little conspiracy concept, but somewhat narcissistic. We all suffer, whether our name is Peter or not (Kevan's middle name really is Peter, by the way, named after his dad's first name). We all suffer because we live in a fallen world where pain runs rampant and bad things happen to good and bad people alike. We are all a mess, physically and spiritually, and yet God, for some reason, still wants to use us and does so in unbelievable ways.
lyrics
My daddy's name is Peter,
And he has got a right ear
That doesn't work.
Swingin' that ol' drill-bit sword.
An accident and oh my Lord
Must've laughed and cried
All at once.
I wonder why He didn't fix it there and then,
And I wonder when or if He ever will.
I wonder why He even let it happen
To begin with, to begin.
And my middle name lines up
Like some kind of punch
In the gut.
But this crud in my lungs
Reminds me of Your love.
When I breathe in and out,
You breathe to.
I hear it resinating through the chambers of my chest,
Shaking out my heart and my soul.
I wish I knew why You even let it happen,
But when I breathe, You breathe to.
When I breathe, You breathe to.
He said this may be a shock,
But upon this rock
I build My Church.
A trigger-happy fisherman,
Full of vinegar and sin,
Forgiven and then left
To tend the sheep.
